Avon Park High School spent the month of February honoring Black History Month through music, culture, creativity, and community! โค๏ธ๐ค๐
๐ถ We began the month with Ian Whiteโs moving performance of โLift Every Voice and Sing,โ a powerful hymn of hope and resilience.
๐ด Caribbean Culture Day brought vibrant rhythms of reggae, soca, calypso, and steel pan across campus! Students enjoyed dancing, learning about global musical influences, and tasting delicious Caribbean treats that highlighted the flavors and traditions of the islands.
๐ฝ๏ธ Taste of Soul Luncheon
Our faculty and staff gathered for a heartwarming celebration sponsored by the Black History Staff Committee, led by Rose Kirby. A delicious soul food spreadโincluding fried chicken, collard greens, mac & cheese, yams, and moreโcreated a moment of fellowship and appreciation for the cultural traditions that enrich our community.
๐ช 20th Annual Door Decorating Contest
This yearโs theme, โAfrican American Inventions,โ showcased the creativity and innovation of our staff as they highlighted inventors who shaped American life.
๐ Winners:
๐ฅ 1st Place โ Mrs. Linda Albritton: Granville T. Woods, โEngineer of the Futureโ
๐ฅ 2nd Place โ Mrs. Tami Saunders: George Crum, inventor of the potato chip
๐ฅ 3rd Place โ Miss K. Offhaus: Madam C.J. Walker, beauty industry pioneer
๐ Honorable Mention โ Ms. Angel Harris: Benjamin Banneker, mathematician & astronomer
Each door was educational, visually stunning, and inspiring for our students!
๐ค SFSC Black History Program
APHS students joined peers from LPHS and SHS for a special presentation at SFSC featuring award-winning journalist Kumasi Aaron. She shared stories from her career, including interviewing Oprah Winfrey, and led students through activities focused on leadership and personal growth.
โจ We are proud of our students, staff, and community for making this month meaningful, educational, and full of celebration. APHS continues to honor history, embrace diversity, and inspire future leaders.

Members kicked off the week with cake and pizza at their monthly meeting. Next up, they headed out on an industry tour to a sod farm, heifer production ranch, and livestock market to learn more about the many opportunities in agriculture. On Wednesday, our FFA Officers led Dairy Day at Park Elementary School, sharing the importance of agriculture with younger students. Thursday was Thankful Thursday, where members wrote thank-you cards to show appreciation for those who support our program.
We wrapped up the week with our 3rd Annual Pancake Party, welcoming community members, club sponsors, alumni, teachers, staff, and parents to see all the great things our chapter has accomplished this year.
We are so proud of our members for demonstrating leadership, service, and dedication to agriculture. Thank you to everyone who continues to support Avon Park FFA!
