๐ This morning, community members gathered at Avon Park High School to celebrate the grand opening of the brand-new APHS Field House!
The event was attended by Superintendent Longshore, district and school administrators, School Board members, members the half-cent sales tax Citizens Advisory Committee, the Athletic Task Force, Avon Park elected officials, student-athletes (past and present), and so many proud community supporters.
The new facility is not only a practical space for athletes but also frees up other areas on APH's campus, for example, expanding programs like CNA/medical tech training. Principal Karen Edsall stated in her remarks "The students are very excited to start using the new facility on Monday!"
One community member recently summed it up perfectly:
"Our school board and superintendent saved funds each year to help pay for long-needed improvements to our countyโs high school athletic facilities. And the input from Citizens Advisory Committee and Athletic Task Force members helped to keep projects at all three high schools moving forward. Thanks so much to the many supportive community members (especially Bill Jarrett!) who helped to fund this APHS field house, and to the Highlands County School Board who thankfully approved the final funding needed to complete the project this year."
๐ A milestone worth celebratingโthank you to everyone who played a role in making this long-awaited dream a reality for the Red Devils!
